                    WELCOME

Dear New Member:

Welcome to the Orange County Modelers Association. OCMA was originally created in 2000 as an AMA certified chapter #58 of 14 Participating AMA local clubs. There are currently10 participating clubs in OCMA. We are happy that you have decided to become a member of our organization. We have prepared this information for you in an effort to help you become better acquainted with our club and flying site in particular.

From January 2000 through June 2006 OCMA flew at “El Toro Field”, part of the old El Toro Marine Base.  In 2006 OCMA was able to lease 68 acres above Irvine Lake at Black Starr Canyon for a new flying site. In 2019 OCMA will celebrate its 13th year at the facility.

The flying site was known as “Black Starr Field” until July of 2009 when one of our founding fathers passed away and the field was dedicated in his honor as “Bob Swenson Memorial Field”.

Again, welcome. DO come to our monthly Board meetings.  DO make flying friends. Do volunteer to work on OCMA activities. DO become a part of our fine club.

The R/C hobby is quite diverse, OCMA supports members to enoy it at the field any way they choose. Provided it is done in a safe manor and according to AMA and OCMA safety rules.
