ORANGE COUNTY MODELERS ASSOCIATION
THE TRADES
Hello. I started into RC two decades ago with RC
Sailplanes. After high school I took a sixteen year break from RC and
reentered with RC Helicopters. I have been slowly and gradually working on
my Heli skills for the past two and a half years and greatly appreciate
those (friends, business owners, teams and manufacturers) that have made the
hobby what it is today. Meeting people from all walks of life and sharing a
common passion has been the pinnacle of this hobby. Thanks to all those that
encourage me to push it to that next level.
In 2008 my wife purchased a Parkzone
Corsair for my birthday and that rekindled my passion for planks. My father
who is an avid Corsair fan, frequently joins me at the field and it is my
goal to have him solo by his 80th birthday.
Near the end of 2009 a great friend of
mine gave me the sticks to his 35% Aeroworks Extra 300 with a DA100. I was
instantly hooked and now enjoy the new challenges of 3D without a tail rotor
and large FAI style maneuvers. While Heli 3D is intense and the rewards
come at a slow pace, I really enjoy large scale as much for the opposite
reasons. The planes are predictable, the rewards come substantially sooner
and the flying can be equally as challenging if pushed to the ragged edge of
the envelope (which I see the scale guys do with such finesse).
I can't say I prefer one over the other,
but group it altogether as a great way to hang out with like minded people
who get bored with the two dimensional world. Look forward to seeing you at
OCMA. Thanks to all who make OCMA possible.
